I See Stupid People
If anyone needs any proof that stupidity is running rampant in the world, they need look no further than Mumbai, India. I can’t remember the last time I saw so much stupidity concentrated in one place. The terrorist attacks on the city continue; the Indian Army is unable to stop them; the local police are powerless. In fact, Fox News is reporting that an Indian general says 12 armed men are holding the entire Indian military at bay. Now, how stupid does the Indian army look?
As we watch the situation unfold in India, we have to ask ourselves: Does the government of India have any sort of counter-terrorist program? This attack was executed to near perfection from a strategic standpoint. I’m guessing it will end just as the thugs who are responsible want it to, with the spectacular deaths of the remaining 12 terrorists and hostages. The thugs are ideologues who look forward to a gloriously violent death, and they don’t mind taking people with them. The army looks like a bunch of fools, and they are. Supposedly, Indian commandos are attempting to free those being held in the Oberoi and Taj hotels. But after 36 hours of attempted rescues, the terrorists are still there, still holding hostages, still firing on security forces. If this is the best their “commandos” can do, Indian citizens are in serious trouble.
The situation in Mumbai illustrates the need for comprehensive terrorism prevention as well as strategies to respond when an attack occurs. Apparently, the Indian government had neither.
On this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful that I could sit back and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on CBS without having to worry about seeing my fellow citizens blown to bits or gunned down by thugs with a religious bent. I’m thankful that somehow my government has managed to prevent another 9/11 here. Maybe the Indian government should take a lesson from the United States.
