Yet Another Government Failout
US automakers are going to get their government bailout. But bailout is the wrong word. A bailout happens when a company falters because of outside pressure beyond its control. What’s happening now is happening because of lack of oversight, lack of foresight and a complete lack of responsibility on the part of those in control. So what we’re being asked to stomach isn’t a bailout; it’s a failout.
What we’re experiencing now is just the tip of the iceberg. This downhill slide didn’t happen suddenly; it’s the result of years of socialist economic policies, union bullying and consumer greed. As we watch the State of California insist that they deserve a failout every bit as much as the automakers, we have to ask: where did all the money go? California is one of the wealthiest, if not THE wealthiest state in the union. Income levels are much higher there than in the Midwest. Californians are taxed at an insane rate. Where is the money? I’ll tell you where-it went to social entitlement programs.
For those who say the free market is the cause of all the current financial woes, I’d point to California, one of the biggest entitlement states in history. What did they get for all their investment in social welfare programs? Well, it appears they got nothing. They went broke. Why? Because when you give money away, people will take it. When you tell everyone they are winners, they won’t try to be productive. Why bother? Everyone’s a winner right? We’re all special.
So here we are. Our republic is collapsing. Our economy is in the toilet. All because of mismanagement, greed and entitlement programs. Lets start with mismanagement. How is it that California’s elected officials didn’t see this coming? Surely they can add. Or maybe not. Since we are all winners, maybe the State of California decided to hire some of the beneficiaries of their social entitlement programs. That would explain the sloppy accounting. After all, why hire qualified people when you can hire adequate people? They don’t have to perform well; just ask the union. These State employees are protected, even if they are the most incompetent people on the planet. What’s wrong with this picture?
The fact is social entitlement programs breed incompetence-just look at California, the UAW and NEA. Socialist policy prevails in all three. California is about to be leveled not by an earthquake, but by its own Pollyanna policies. The UAW is directly responsible for what is happening in the auto industry. Why should the taxpayer pay for a UAW worker’s pension or retirement fund? If we pay for them, should we pay for everyone who lost money in the stock market? Give me a break. Unions are obsolete. This is new economy. If is is to succeed the unions, all of them, should be disbanded. If you’re not smart enough to negotiate your own pay and benefit package, you deserve what you get.
Then there’s the teacher’s union. Never has there been a more incompetent bunch of nancy pants. They want job protection. Yet, 30% of America’s kids drop out of school. That’s right, 30%. What are we paying these so-called educators for? For years, they’ve been telling us how every kid is equal, every kid is special and every kid deserves a quality education. Then, they produce millions of dropouts every year. Why should they keep their job? If you performed your job at only 70%, would you still have a job? Probably not.
Stop the government failouts. These people should go to jail. To the UAW: I don’t feel sorry for any of you. If you were so concerned about your companies and your jobs, you would have acted to stop this fiasco when it started years ago. You didn’t, because you are greedy and stupid. Now you want me to pay more to save your sorry butts. If this goes through, I promise you, there is no way I’ll buy an American car. Not a chance. I’ll buy a Toyota Prius. If you want me to buy an American car, then make one I want to buy at a price I want to pay.
The government failouts will no doubt continue. I guess I’ll get in line for some of that free money. Why not? I’m special. I’m a winner. I’m broke. Gimme some money.
