Bush Doles Out Corporate Viagra So Unions Can Keep It Up
It’s official. The Bush Administration has decided to ignore the will of the people. The exact same bill that couldn’t pass the Senate has been repackaged as a low interest loan, a loan floated by the taxpayer, who themselves can’t get a loan. But not to worry, the UAW gets to keep all of its perks and policies that helped to drive the auto industry into the ground. That’s right, some under-educated, over-paid worker, who couldn’t get a job doing anything else gets to make $72.00 per hour while the rest of us wait for the other shoe to fall. What is wrong with this picture?
The argument that letting the auto industry fail begs the question, begs it hard. Hasn’t the industry already failed? In fact, GM and Chrysler have been losing money for years. The UAW, didn’t want to work with the company when things started to get out of hand, so now we are all being stroked for cash so they can live large. The principle is simple: management failed; both the corporate and union upper echelons were focused solely on their own interests. Neither cared about the worker or the consumer, both of whom are taxpayers.
The UAW has to go. Yes, once they were an important vehicle to ensure the basic rights of workers, but that was another time and place. Today, we have reached an era where the individual is quite able to negotiate their own salary and benefits. The only groups who need unions are the disabled. The fact is, most union members complain incessantly about the leadership; they don’t trust them, and most strongly suspect that union leadership is as overpaid as corporate leadership. We are indeed seeing the end of an era but not the era of the American auto industry. We’re seeing the end to greedy unions and their leaders who serve no other purpose but to promote a socialist agenda. People should get paid what they are worth, not what the union says they’re worth.
As for me, I wouldn’t buy a GM or Chrysler to save my life. I’ll buy a Ford, Toyota or Honda…..all made in America and all doing ok.
