There’s lots of advice out there about what to do if you’re looking for a job: polish your resume, stay positive, network, and work on those interview skills. Stomach in, chest back….go get ‘em. All good advice, but what if you need a quick cash infusion? Well, there are a few things you can do to put some green back in your wallet:

Go through your old books. The age of the book itself might make it an antique, and if it’s in good shape, you’ll be able to unload it to a dealer. Look in the phone book. Age itself doesn’t automatically make the book valuable. Sometimes, it’s a mistake. Like in Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot. There’s a misprint in the first edition. The main character is Father Callahan, not Father Cody as misprinted in the first edition. If you have a copy of this gem, it’s worth $7500-$10,000.

Show up at your local performing arts theater before a big show. When large stars are out on tour they travel large. Very often temporary help is needed to unload the equipment and reload it after the performance. This is true of even smaller community theaters. Check the schedule and show up. It pays cash on the spot.

Become a street performer. Sing, play guitar or bongos, or beat on something with stick. Sure, they might only through change at you, but every penny adds up. Make sure your performance stands out. It needs to be original.

Provide daycare for sick children. With the job market as tight as it is, working parents are afraid to take time off when their kids are sick. They don’t want someone sliding into their position while they’re at home dealing with a barfing baby. Watching sick kids can be quite lucrative, and messy. If you’re not the kind of person that can handle diarrhea and harf, you might want to skip this option.

Sell your gold and silver jewelry. Precious metal brokers are practically begging for every scarp of gold they can get. Of course, this doesn’t bode well for the economy, but they are paying a pretty penny for it. Analysts believe that the price of silver will also rise once the bailout bill, er….economic stimulus…..er….economic recovery and repair package is passed.

Provide adult care services. Many families have no contingency for their older live-in relatives that need assistance. If they’re forced to take on extra responsibility and hours at the office to keep their jobs, someone will need to care for their elderly relative.

Pet sit. Pets are being abandoned in droves because of the imploding economy. Offer to take in pets from the local shelter, which is almost always funded with government money. See if you can work out kennel and boarding fees for being a pet foster parent.

Get a blog. If you like to write and have good command of language, consider getting a blog. Bloggers make money through affiliate advertising (Google, Amazon, Commission Junction, etc). Click here to get a free blog on Today.com. It’s painless and a whole lot cleaner than scraping up kid barf.

Remember, if just need a little cash to get you by, then take any temporary gig you can find. Sure it might be unpleasant, but you never know who you might bump into.

Al Gore got a Nobel Peace Prize; he got an Oscar; he got rich, and he got it wrong. While Gore and his elitist pals were warning that we were all going to perish because of global warming, it was snowing in Louisiana and Mexico. In fact, the winter of 2008-2009 has been one of the coldest on record. Al Gore and his hysterical pal Michael Moore have collected copious amounts of cash preaching about the sins of carbon emissions. There’s just one problem: the whole thing is a colossal hoax.

We aren’t facing extinction from global warming. However, experts agree that we may be looking at another Ice Age. Industrial pollution is a problem, especially in China. It seems that emissions are actually blocking out sunlight, causing the Earth’s temperature to fall, not rise. Check out this article by Dr. Theodor Landscheidt, an expert in the field.

With a fervor usually associated with religious zealots, the elitist left have embraced the religion of global warming. This new faith comes complete with gods (Gore and Moore), doctrine (driving is bad), and redemption (spend handfuls of cash on “green” products). As with all religious fanatics, the followers of this New Age religion proselytize and judge the rest of us while they throw huge concerts that spew carbon into the air and fly around on their private jets. What kind of fuel do those jets use, fairy dust?

The proof that global warming is a hoax isn’t so much in the scientific evidence, although the proof is solid. The real proof is in the lefty spin. Have you noticed that they have stopped using the term global warming, replacing it with the term climate change? It’s subtle, and most of the brainless masses that worship at the Gore and Moore altar haven’t noticed that the basic tenants of their religion have been changed.

For the last few years these over-educated leftwing nut jobs have been berating the rest of us for driving, using our computers and buying non-environmentally friendly products. Of course, they leave out the part where they contribute to the problem, or as it turns out, non-problem.

Here’s an idea. Clean up the pollution. Not because of some ridiculous leftwing prophecy, but because it’s nasty. Who wants to breath all those emissions? Global warming is nothing more than a way to make rich elitists even richer. From what I’ve seen of Al Gore and Micheal Moore, their both eating pretty good lately. I wonder how much carbon they emit?

Everyone looking for ways to supplement their income, or unemployment check. People are so desperate to make extra money, they’re falling prey to work-at-home schemes like never before. Can you earn money by working at home? Yes. I’ve been doing it for over twenty years. It’s rough on the freelance market, but if you work at it, and give it some time (because success doesn’t come overnight, even on the Internet), you’ll be able to supplement your income quite nicely.

Here’s a few freelance leads to get you started:

Mechanical Turk. A division of Amazon .com, Mechanical Turk is an online marketplace with thousands of micro jobs. These are tasks that businesses and developers need done, but don’t want to add an employee to the payroll to do them.

WordPress Jobs. A little-known list of jobs for bloggers and programmers. If you are a whiz at blogging or PHP, check it out.

Pro Blogger. This an excellent listing of blogging and copywriting jobs. It’s updated daily and all jobs are the real deal.

Blogger Jobs. Another great site with up-to-date, paying jobs.

Green Options Media. An environmental blog with a huge following. They are looking for eco-savy bloggers.

Environmental Graffiti. Another environmental blog looking for qualified contributers.

Elance.com. This site lists thousands of freelance jobs. It works like Ebay. Users bid on posted jobs. Requires free registration.

Guru. This site is similar to Elance. It also boasts thousands of freelance jobs. Free registration required.

RFD America. An online magazine for the rural community. This site features paying resources for freelance country writers.

And last, but certainly not least Get paid to BLOG at Today.com Pays $1.00 per post plus .0075 per impression.

Be cautious out there. Never pay exorbitant fees to search for freelance work. While sites like Guru and Elance do have a premium service, both offer a free service. You don’t have to pay to play. However, to bid on high-skilled jobs, you do need to be a premium member.

And stick with it. When I first started, I make .36 the first month. Now, I pull in around $500.00. It takes time, but if you’re laid-off or otherwise out of work, you’ve got more time than money. Make good use of it.

The numbers are staggering. According to a report on Fox News this morning, the economy is shedding jobs at the rate of 17,000 per day. Frank Luntz, author of Words That Work, and Fox News contributor went on to say that the foreclosure crisis has yet to peak, but the experts expect the rate to rise to 13,000 every day in the near future.

No part of the country has remained unscathed. Except, perhaps, the Beltway elitists and their king, Barak Obama. While millions of Americans are waking up homeless and hopeless, the urbanites who brought us this fiscal disaster are kicking up their hills on the National Mall, to the tune of $160 million. Who cares if the country is broke? If the king wants a party; the king gets a party. As for all those bankrupt and jobless millions, let them eat cake.

Obama’s transition team is hoping to raise $45 million through private donations. Their about halfway there. Private donors with ties to big oil, big pharma, and global finance have given millions to cover the inauguration. Something tells me they’re going to expect more than a simple “thank you.”

Here’s a list of the top industries that ponied up for the coronation:

Securities & Investment—$3,603,000

Lawyers/Law Firms—$2,508,950

Misc Business—$2,191,127

TV/Movies/Music—	$1,748,200

Real Estate—$1,570,805

Business Services—$1,307,450

Misc Finance—$1,176,750

Homemakers/Non-income earners—$1,132,440

Retired—$1,082,850

Computers/Internet—$1,029,750

Read more about the cost of the coronation>>>

On top of the $45 million the transition team is hoping to raise through an extensive online and e-mail campaign, the federal government has budgeted another $45 million for the event. And, because of the expected number of people converging on the Eastern Seaboard, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia have requested $75 to cover the costs. In case you’re counting, that’s $169 million dollars for a party.

Obama likes to invoke Abraham Lincoln when he talks about hope and change, but a more accurate archetype would most certainly be the Emperor Nero, who literally held his audience captive while he performed a macabre skit as Rome burned to the ground.

I smell smoke.

The House Majority Leader, Harry Reid, is no doubt relieved that the media is concentrated on Israel’s strikes against Hamas. If it weren’t for the invasion, Reid would be smack-dab in the middle of the murky stew that is the Chicago political system. Reid, has stated unequivocally that he and other House Democrats will not seat Governor Rod Blagojevich’s choice to fill Barack Obama’s Senate seat. That stance was controversial enough, but it seems the good Senator has a huge interest in what’s cooking in Illinois, which means he has a conflict of interest when it comes to the current nomination to fill the seat.

On the 300+ hours of recorded phone calls from Governor Blagojevich’s office, Reid can be heard “pressuring” the Governor not to give the seat to Jesse Jackson, Jr. among others. Senator Reid’s assistant, Jim Manley, won’t release the names of the other candidates disparaged by Reid, but they will no doubt surface as the scandal deepens and widens. Manley says that there is “no need to embarrass the people mentioned in the conversations.” More likely, Reid and his people need time to get their cirsis management plan in place, because there is going to be a crisis in the Democratic Party that stretches from Washington D.C. to Chicago.

Sooner or later, the screaming masses will tire of the invasion of Gaza. The Israeli’s have already indicated they intend to be there a while. They’ve surrounded Gaza City and are securing the perimeter. Once the media tires of pictures of tanks, protesters and dead children, and they will tire of it, the cameras and questions will turn to something more palatable: the Jerry Springer-like atmosphere in the Democratic Party. And the timing will be perfect; a war weary, economically depressed populace will be looking for someone to vilify for the whole mess. Hang on Harry, the stew’s a boiling and you’re what’s for dinner.

The Blagojevich “scandal” in Chicago is being touted as the mother of all political catches. Blago is one big fish, and US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald is reeling him in. He’s got the big one on the hook; or does he?

Govenor Blagojevich was awakened before sunrise on December 9th by phone call from Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn, informing him that the FBI was at the family’s front door, waiting to arrest the Governor on federal corruption charges. The whole thing was done quietly, so as not to awaken the Blagojevich children or the media.

The feeding frenzy didn’t begin until US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald held a bizarre press conference, laying out his corruption case against the Governor like the buffet at a Friday night fish fry. When other attorneys questioned this tactic, their concerns were drowned out by the sound of a frenzied media feasting on the decadent scandal, finding the whole thing quite tasty. Of course, while all those media fish are feasting on Blago like mad piranhas are in one place at one time and thoroughly distracted, some smart predator might be able to swoop in and devour the lot of them. Is it possible that Blago isn’t the catch but the bait?

Think about it a second. When was the last time law enforcement triggered their own trap? If the Governor was trying to sell the seat and had a buyer, why not let the deal go down and then rush in with guns drawn? Isn’t that how it’s usually done? Take the case of the former Mayor of Washington DC, Marion Barry. The cops didn’t burst into the room when the Mayor and his pals were talking about smoking crack; they waited until they actually fired it up. Going in at the discussion stage wouldn’t have led to any charges, let alone an arrest. It’s just not how these things are done.

Something else is going on here. The US Attorney’s Office is obviously trolling for much bigger fish than Blagojevich. It should be interesting to see who takes the bait. I’m guessing it’s one giant lunker–one for the record books.

Roaming mobs of Greek youths torched a Christmas tree to the ground on December 8th. Then, On December 20th, an unruly mob, in desperate need of a paddling, attacked a Christmas tree. I say attacked, not vandalize, because the sentiment behind the action was a desire to retaliate, to strike-out. The tree was vandalized, but society was attacked, beaten black and blue by an bunch of spoiled European brats who are using the death of an unarmed teenager as justification for this hissy fit.

We are witnessing the effects of a generation raised without boundaries, rules or expectations. From the far corners of the globe, my generation has abandoned the ideals of heritage and respect for life and tradition. We encouraged them to explore new religions and schools of thought, an idea that was supposed to expand their horizons. What we failed to do was provide boundaries. Unbridled expansion isn’t good; it’s cancer. And that’s what we’re seeing now, a cancer among the world’s young people. Generation X is angry and disillusioned, and it’s our fault. This is what happens when young people are allowed to explore the world alone.

Christmas is becoming a symbol of divisiveness and oppression. Each year, the cries from atheists and other non-Christian grow louder as the so-called season of joy draws near. The railing and wailing begins, and the meanness is unleashed. Since when did Christmas become a time of bickering? Since we allowed the season to become about what we did and didn’t get for Christmas, what we did or didn’t give our kids this year.

The young people in Greece and athiests across the globe aren’t really mad at Christmas or Christmas trees. They’re mad at us, the people who raised them with false expectations (if any at all). They’re mad at us for making up myths like Santa Claus for the sole purpose of ensuring their devotion to consumerism is as strong as their devotion to government. They’re mad at us for letting their teacher have more influence on their lives than we did. They’re mad at us, so they take it out on the things around them. It’s called a temper tantrum folks, and that’s what the world’s youth is giving us for Christmas. From Washington State to Greece Generation X wishes us all a Merry !@#$% Christmas.

It’s official. The Bush Administration has decided to ignore the will of the people. The exact same bill that couldn’t pass the Senate has been repackaged as a low interest loan, a loan floated by the taxpayer, who themselves can’t get a loan. But not to worry, the UAW gets to keep all of its perks and policies that helped to drive the auto industry into the ground. That’s right, some under-educated, over-paid worker, who couldn’t get a job doing anything else gets to make $72.00 per hour while the rest of us wait for the other shoe to fall. What is wrong with this picture?

The argument that letting the auto industry fail begs the question, begs it hard. Hasn’t the industry already failed? In fact, GM and Chrysler have been losing money for years. The UAW, didn’t want to work with the company when things started to get out of hand, so now we are all being stroked for cash so they can live large. The principle is simple: management failed; both the corporate and union upper echelons were focused solely on their own interests. Neither cared about the worker or the consumer, both of whom are taxpayers.

The UAW has to go. Yes, once they were an important vehicle to ensure the basic rights of workers, but that was another time and place. Today, we have reached an era where the individual is quite able to negotiate their own salary and benefits. The only groups who need unions are the disabled. The fact is, most union members complain incessantly about the leadership; they don’t trust them, and most strongly suspect that union leadership is as overpaid as corporate leadership. We are indeed seeing the end of an era but not the era of the American auto industry. We’re seeing the end to greedy unions and their leaders who serve no other purpose but to promote a socialist agenda. People should get paid what they are worth, not what the union says they’re worth.

As for me, I wouldn’t buy a GM or Chrysler to save my life. I’ll buy a Ford, Toyota or Honda…..all made in America and all doing ok.

A group of of workers from Chicago’s Republic Windows and Doors, are refusing to leave the grounds of a defunct company. Under the Worker’s Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988 (WARN), companies with over 100 employees have to give 60 days notice that the company is closing. The workers in Chicago got three days.

Since the plant closed its doors last week, 200 locked-out employees have been standing vigil outside the shuttered gates. They are demanding the company pay them their benefits. The company says they can’t because Bank of America, the company’s lender, has cut-off their credit. Here’s the problem: Bank of America just got 25 billion dollars in taxpayer bailout money. Remember? They needed the money to make sure businesses didn’t have to close their doors? So what did they do with the money? They paid off their own mistakes, leaving America’s businesses to fend for themselves. What’s happening to the workers of Republic Windows and Doors is only the beginning.

Taxpayers were wary of this behemoth effort to throw good money after bad in the first place. Now, they’re outraged and confused. It’s a natural response; after all, we’ve been hoodwinked. The truth is, the huge financial institutions that paid fast and loose with rules, drove an entire nation into economic despair and are wholly unrepentant for their thievery, are going to do just what Bank of America did-take the money and run.

Now, as churches in Detroit drive SUVs onto their altars to pray for a bailout, we have to ask: will the automakers do what the financial institutions did? Probably. But let’s not forget Congress in this little slam dance.

Senator Chris Dodd (D) wants the CEO of GM to resign when the bailout goes through. Wow, that’s bold. A leading member of the do-nothing Congress wants someone to resign? Either this guy is really brave or really stupid. I’m opting for both. The hubris of Dodd and his fellow democrats like Barney Frank who have personal relationships with failed financial institutions is beyond belief. Maybe every member of Congress who allowed the current financial melt down, no FACILITATED the current crisis, should resign. The halls of Capitol Hill would echo with silence.

This is only the beginning. As more companies and banks are bailed out by the taxpayers, they’re not going to pump money back into the economy; instead, they’re going to do just what Bank of America did-take the money and run. Later chumps.

Stop the government bailouts. Call your congressman today!
